Ingredients
1 medium-large potato for each person
Milk
Butter
Salt & pepper
Equipment
Pot
Vegetable peeler
Sharp knife
Colander (strainer)
Potato masher or fork
Stove
Procedure
- Peel the potato(es), rinse under cold water and cut into quarters
- Put the potato(es) in the pot and cover with water, add a pinch of salt
- Put the pot on the stove on high heat, bring to a boil (large bubbles) and cook until you can easily pierce a potato piece with a fork or knife
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Put pot back on the stove on very low heat and let dry out for a couple of minutes
- Add a pat (1-2 tsps) of butter for each potato and mash the potatoes until there are no more large pieces
- Add a splash of milk (start small, you can always add more) and mash some more. Add more milk, a little at a time until it's the consistency you like.
- Add salt and pepper, taste and add more if you need to
